Corruption and loss of integrity

Thank you for coming to our CAH web site.  I am normally heavily involved in organizing the CAH group.  We are now in our Summer recess, and I will take the opportunity for a more personal message.

Corruption and loss of integrity in our US Government has reached such a pitch that the very cores of Humanism and UU Principles are being offended.  We cannot go on living the good life and ignore what is happening at the highest levels of our Nation.  As a non-profit organization, we are not permitted to engage in politics, but we are able to engage in issues.

Following paragraph is extracted from the unifying document “Humanism and Its Aspirations”.

The life stance of Humanism—guided by reason, inspired by compassion, and informed by experience—encourages us to live life well and fully.  We are committed to treating each person as having inherent worth and dignity. Humanists long for and strive toward a world of mutual care and concern, free of cruelty and its consequences.  We seek to minimize the inequities of circumstance and ability, and we support a just distribution of nature’s resources and the fruits of human effort so that as many as possible can enjoy a good life.   We work to uphold the equal enjoyment of human rights and civil liberties in an open, secular society.  It is a civic duty to participate in the democratic process and a planetary duty to protect nature’s integrity, diversity, and beauty in a secure, sustainable manner. The responsibility for our lives and the kind of world in which we live is ours and ours alone.

Major aims of CAH include spreading information on how we meet the above goals.

A good picture of recent undesirable events can be obtained by watching the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC News, weeknights at 9 pm.  Every weekday evening she unearths a serious "integrity and truth" problem and addresses it very competently.

Many of her past podcasts can be watched and downloaded

One serious problem (among others) she addressed recently was that U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will lose nearly two-thirds of its staff at two research agencies as the department moves them, at short notice, from Washington to the Kansas City area. They are national resources which study or fund research into food stamps, climate change, pollution, rural poverty etc. Those who won't move will be fired. This is clearly an Administration effort to sideline those who work on efforts counter to its agenda, and is just one of many such problems.

We must get personally involved in trying to correct the situation that is becoming dangerous to the future of US Democracy.  Please help.
Please also share any inputs you may have, to publish on this web site. Email them to me at pne @ aol.com.  Please include “CAH INPUT”  in the subject line, so it doesn’t get thrown out with the trash!

      Thanks,
